Danny Houghton has been named as Hull FC captain for the 2018 season, the club has confirmed this evening.

Houghton, who is currently celebrating his testimonial year after 10 years of service to the club, will lead the Black & Whites this season as they prepare to defend the Challenge Cup once again, and embark on their historic tour of New South Wales.

Houghton had been vice-captain during Gareth Ellis’ five-year spell as captain, but is now promoted following Ellis’ retirement to take up the role as Football Manager.

The club also confirmed that Scott Taylor would take up the role of vice-captain.

While Houghton role as captain had been widely expected by fans, supporters opinions varied as to who should replace the hooker as vice, with Sika Manu, Marc Sneyd and Mark Minichiello all mentioned as potential options.

But the appointment of Houghton and Taylor sees a Hull-born pairing leading the club.

Houghton is the first Hull-born captain since current Black & Whites coach Lee Radford led the side between 2007 and 2009.
